Yes, it means that fascism will be disguised and will be promoted as blind and unquestioning loyalty to our govt officials...
Exactly what many people are now advocating.

Well, when Hitler took over Germany, he was EXTREMELY patriotic, and promised the world(literally). People though he was a great guy, and he really did great things for Germany. Churchill even had a great admiration for him, until he started pulling all of these shennanigans in late 30s.
So, if America ever becomes fascist, it will probably be in a time of need, with a leader who promises to help America, for America, by America. He will be a good guy(on the outside), and will know what he's talking about.

He meant it will be promoted as patriotism using expressions like...
"Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists." (1)
He meant that freedom-stealing legislation would carry names like "The Patriot Act." (2)
He meant that the government would ignore the constitution (aka a G.D. piece of paper) by detaining people indefinitely without classifying them as POW's or criminals thus denying them any protections like due process or Geneva convention protections.(3)
He meant that our President would refer to an important "bridge" between church and state instead of the "wall" described by Jefferson when addressing the Danbury Baptists.(4)
He meant that freedom of speech would only be allowed in Free Speech Zones.(5)
He meant that people would be disallowed from growing and smoking a plant that helped them through chemotherapy because the government had been paid off by pharmaceutical companies.(6)
He meant that faith-based initiatives would be used to fund religious outreach programs with taxpayer money.(7)
He meant that we need to do something about it -- that we need to go to the polls and vote for a smaller, less intrusive government that is afraid of the people, not the other way around -- while we still have the chance.(8)

One might suppose, since that's what he said. Nazi Fascism touched on two points that were important for the German people.
One being nationalism as they were embarassed by WWI. Also Hitler was crafty enough to wrap the Christians into a heretical and very un-Christian church named, 'Positive Christianity'.
In this church, the Nazi party was above god. Just as the communist party is above God in Chinese Catholiscm.
Folks who claim that Hitler was influenced by the Catholic church are historically inept. Hitler's holocaust was responsible for killing 3 million Polish Catholics/Protestants, harldy what one would call a 'Catholic Jihad'.
So it's basically about touching on points the population feels strong about.
Of course the left wing loves to envoke this quote because they're certain that America is fascist, when it clearly isn't.

Yes. Often, when a fascist government is imposed upon people, that government justifies it with something like patriotism or the good of the country.

Precisely. It's unfolding right before our very eyes. Just look at the Patriot Act, and Homeland Security Bill.

Eh, I take Lewis with a grain of salt. He became quite depressing his finished life. have you ever study Babbitt? God, a worse hell hath not at all been designed. i'm particular he'd be embracing socialism (he frolicked on a socialist farm) affirming it became the terrific justice of equality for all. he's slightly biased in his attitude. All he wrote became grievance of this u . s . a . which allowed him to criticize it.

he believed it would seem nationalistic - the Christian beliefs involved or not would not matter. That would certainly not reflect fascist ideology to have Christianity supporting it.
