Sounds like the clutch is worn out and slipping too much. A new clutch may be in order.

A larger gas peddle Lauren?? Haha, I am going to have to try that in the hot rod shop. And to think, all this time we have been putting large V8's in our cars.

Sounds like gearing. Think about this: In NASCAR, when a car makes a pit stop on a larger oval track, the crew will push the car out of the pit box. Why? Becuase the car has larger gearing, giving it more top end speed and hardly any acceleration.

What you want to try is putting a smaller gear on it. Look at the drive gear thats currenly on there and see if you can find a number than ends in 'T'. For example, 72T. Or, count the teeth on the gear. Then step it down 5-10 teeth.

You'll scrifice a little top end speed, but you'll gain acceleration. You can play around a little bit with different gears to get the right one that will give you adequate acceleration and good top end.

Does the engine rev up but gocart won't go, or does the the engine not have good power?

Does it have a simple centifical clutch with chain drive, or does it have a compound belt diven clutch. (torq-a-verter)

does it have a four stroke or two stroke engine?

How many horse power?

Who makes it?

A more informed question would result in a more informed answer.

i have one too, and i had the same problem. First if your gas peddle can be changed to a larger Resistance to may go faster or try setting the choke in the back by the engine.

that's about all it know,
Lauren

It sounds to me like the go-kart is equipped with a torque converter (popular brand is Torque-a-Verter). If it is, it can be adjusted to be "looser" or "tighter". You remove the plastic cover and play with the adjuster nut. This will change your launch characteristics, hopefully more to your liking.
