There are a couple of things to consider when crossing ones legs:
1. Yes, it constricts the blood flow to the lower leg and can cause veins to burst resulting in varicose veins and/or spider veins...rather unsightly.
2. Is ones present outfit pants or a skirt and how short is the skirt? If the skirt is too short, crossing ones legs is definitely a no-no. Pants do not result in this problem.
Therefore, crossing ones legs if one is careful is not bad behavior but it can have a bad result on the health of your feet and legs.

What it does, is it causes the sacrum to tilt. This can cause nerve and vein problems as in compression at the hip. That is why you're feeling numbness. The "vein problems" doesn't mean that it will cause varicose or spider veins. It sounds like you are experiencing syptoms of a tilted pelvis.
The best thing for you to do to get it fixed is to go to a chiropractor. Because this is a chronic issue, it could take several months to start seeing a huge improvement because your chiropractor will have to undo 25 years of tilt. BUT, it is well worth it!

If done for extremely long periods of time, it could potentially increase the chance of blood clotting, as per Deep Vein Thrombosis. Blood clots are bad because well, that's how strokes happen. Getting up to walk every now and then should prevent it. For just crossing legs, well, I guess you could change which leg is on top I imagine.

I have not heard that, but I am sure that the deprivation of blood flow can cause your veins to weaken. I think that you should try to not cross your legs as much or at least rotate top legs. I have heard that women who are leg crossers are more prone to varicose veins.

If you cross your legs, the veins at the back of knees will form "spider veins" after time.

I have heard that crossing legs can be bad for your hips as well as circulation... I've been told to cross feet at the ankles instead of over the knee that helps with the circulation.

Yeah. It can cause spider veins. I cross mine at the ankles only. So I cross my ankles instead.
