Here is how I found you. It is kind of like a sting of people I am looking at.
Since all best answers give 10 points anyway I thought I would look to see if anyone was silly enough to use 10 points as barging device for questions. I think it is so funny since I questions give 10 points for best answers to offer that up as a reward so I did an advanced search right now to see how many open there are and 485 of them came up and yours was one of them.
I am saying hi to some of them as I go down the list. I hope that helps. A string can be many things. I could be a sting of atoms. People holding hands. It could be a string of pearls. It could be one of those string games. Like cats cradle. You could have a collection of stings you find or have people you all know give you a part of sting the find at their home from anywhere and make it into something. Even charles manson the serial killer makes strange things from string. Look string up on the web and think outside the book of what it can be and what it can mean. Do not get too literal. Try hard so your teacher thinks you put something into it. Take a visual aid in like some differnet strings or some srings from people or some answers form here. Show her or him you worked on it and tried. Take some different definitions in. Some different research and learn about it so you know it in your own words not plagerism.

Make it about this:
I don't know if people still do it, but in the past when someone had to remember somehting they would tie a bit of string around their finger, then each time they saw this string it would act as a specific reminder of what they are supposed to remember.
Your story could be about some special event in someone's life, or even a mundane event like meeting for coffee after work, and how they have no a horrible memory so, without any form of electronic note taking handy, they resort to this old style of reminder.

You should write about the Greek myth of the man who is with the Minotaur in the labyrinth, and uses a piece of string to escape out from the maze.

One night a girl was trying to put her relentless younger brother to sleep. She tried everything but nothing worked. She found a piece of string that made his eyes glow. The string took on a life of its own and began dancing for them on the nightstand. It inched around like a caterpillar. It swung off the lamp like spiderman. It hid in the draw and played hide and seek. The young boy was so tired after all this that he yawned and fell asleep.

Perhaps as seen from a cotton fibre....grown in the southern US to fibre to milling as string....then all the possibilities as to where the string will go and be used....a wrap for a fish monger in s. France. A tie for a 90 year old woman about to die and in process of getting organized...a cheap gift with a lot of love for an orphan... a tie for a garbage bag sent to the dump.....perhaps a combination of all illustrating the life of a string....the years of "waiting" etc. Use you imagination!!!

you dream you are a piece of string attached to someone you love, (someone who you do not really know very well)
and when you wake up , you set your mind to do something ...you carefully choose and take a piece of string to the boy of your dreams and give it to him......
and he just looks at it, with no knowledge of your dream or your love and laughs and throws it on the floor ....
and you pick it up, look at it..... and then go about finding a locket and putting the piece of string into the locket......
still holding onto it (both the boy and the string are wholly irrelevant - what they mean to you is what is fantastic)
i don't know what happens next - it is your dream

You could probably write about the strings journey, and its views
You could also write about like a string bracelet, and why it is important, and how it came to be.
You could also write about string theory, but that probably isn't the best idea
HTH!
