Regardless of what anyone says, you can look at any act and explain it in terms of inherent selfishness. Even if you give someone something and expect nothing in return, your reward is the pride you take in yourself in the belief that you are a good person and that inherently that act was to better your opinion of yourself. So I would say everyone lives for themselves, it just depends on how direct or indirect the paths are that each person chooses.

Lately I've realized that if I don't start living for myself a bit more I am not going to be any good to anyone else. Some of my wishes have been put on the back burner,or never made it to the stove, and it's possible that I'm going to need to nourish myself in order to give something to the world.

I can't imagine what my children would be like if I did it any other way. Make breakfast- help get them ready for school- do her hair- clean up- take them to daycare/school- go to work- pick them up- fix dinner- help them with homework/reading- play games/puzzles/stories- teach them life's lessons- bathe them- put them down- clean and maintain the house- do laundry- do paperwork/bills.... blah blah and it all starts over. And why? Because I love it! And they deserve it and need it- because I love them! And if I get to live a moment for myself in between (like, oh, say- Y!A), I seize it, relax, and enjoy it for my own sanity. And not just for myself but for their sake. Sad? Pathetic? Perhaps- but I can't see doing it any other way. My own happiness comes from knowing I have a part in theirs and my successes are derived from the ones I see of theirs every day.

I try to live my life using the philosophy of old Al Schweitzer, who said - "Life becomes harder for us when we live for others, but it also becomes richer and happier." So far I'm ahead about a buck ninety-two.
