ok well i have a 45 45 90 degree angle and u have to solve for x and y so if the hypothenuse is 8suare root 2 and the olng leg is x and the short leg is y what would be the answer for x an y???????????

The legs you are looking for are equal. The hypotenuse is divided by square root of 2 to get the legs so they are both 8.

Because there are two 45 degree angles, both of their opposite bases or legs are the same length. Therefore x = y. Also, the length of the hypotenuse of any 45-45-90 triangle is the length of either leg times the square root of 2. So, both legs are equal to 8.

lets see
radical 66, right? thats what 8 times radical two is (radical is the sign for square root)
so we know that radical 66 is the longest side because it is the hypotenuse
radical 66= 8.12.....so we have x^2 +y^2 =8.12 and then 8.12>x>y
