Patriotism is supporting your country, at all times. Specifically, supporting the core values and essential principles of the country.

In the US, that means supporting the Constitution. That is why military officers and legal officers and elected officials are required to swear an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Patriotism is supporting your country. It doesn't require being stupid, and it doesn't require blindly following elected leaders who are being stupid. And it prohibits blindly following elected leaders who committing criminal violations of the Constitution.

Because anyone who betrays and subverts the Constitution is being an enemy of the country, whether foreign or domestic.
