You might want to just go to a guitar shop and find one that catches your eye, or you think sounds the best.
Also look at some musicians who you like, and see what they play. However you didn't specify what kind of guitar you were looking for, but I can still list some brands for both electric and acoustic.

Electric:

Fender Strat, Telecaster - lighter, with single-coil pickups
Les Paul - more crafted, expensive, and heavier, humbucker pickups
Danelectro - look cool

Acoustic:

I like Breedlove Atlas, Guild, and Gibson. Also a lot of people like Martin because they are made in America. Taylor has a brighter sound, I think Lisa Loeb plays that kind. Epiphone is good too, it's the less expensive version of Gibson guitars. Ovation acoustic guitars might be lighter and easier to play, however I can't really remember how they sound in comparison to real acoustic guitars. They look kind of funky.

I love the sound of Taylor guitars. My husband has been playing guitars for over 20 years. He has a Taylor 12 string. a Taylor 414 and a Baby Taylor. He has gone through many guitars but those ones are the keepers. I can always tell when he's playing his Taylor's they have a quality sound to than that not many others have.

If the price range does'nt matter then invest in a quality accoustic guitar.
I used to play on my brother's Ovation, it's accoustic and had pick-ups so I could plug it.
Gibson is my favourite choice of electric guitars.
Norman is an excellent choice for accoustic.

Try the airline guitar... it's really good.. and one thing... buy a guitar who's strings are super soft!!! you dont wanna kill your hands..

anyways, try classical guitar if you're a learner... the one with nylon strings.. it's easier to learn cos it dont strain your hands...

and... you might wanna try ebay for very good guitars... my personal recomendation for an acoustic one is AIRLINE...

you used that for like.. 3 yrs... so far.. not even one problem... strings are always in perfect condition.. and it's really soft!!!

alright.. hope you find your thing.. good luck!!!

any questions, pm me!!

A Zager Guitar .... (A guitar so easy to play that the Martin Guitar Company invited Denny Zager to explain how he sets them up).
Doesn't hurt the fingers and sounds fantastic!

Are you just learning, money seems no object. Still unless you have the ability to play at least fairly well, I would get a cheaper on for awhile. Then upgrade.
