With the Oil for Food debaukle and impotent resolution after resolution, just how much clout does the UN hold?

The UN, despite the issues that you raise, does alot for the world. If you live in the US (or "first world") it may not be as evident as if you lived in poorer nations (but the US does benefit from every child that is immunized in Congo or Sudan from diseases that can/do spread to the US.) The UN does alot of "background work" in improving life conditions in area of needs. If those conditions improve--and when they are successful in quelling wars, then those people will not seek refuge in other places.

The UN was not designed to be useful and relevant in action. It was basically designed to be a road sign that if a police officer (all five members of the security council) saw something that threatened the lives of the people (in the 5 respective security council countries), then he (the Security Council) could take action by ticketing (economic sanctions) or arresting (military sanctions) the perpetrator.

It exists so that the power elite are not collectively screwed over all at once.

The UN is a complete waste of time and energy. It should be disbanned immediately. I think the only thing the UN is good for is allowing representatives from 3rd world countries to live it up in the US and NY while telling successful nations how to run their lives. Nevermind that most of their countries are waste-lands that offer nothing to the world.
Get the UN out of the US and the US out of the UN NOW!!!

Don't worry soon it will take over. The government situation is a hot potatoe and everyone would like to turn the problem over to someone else. Bush won't be in office forever, hopefully.
The next administration to get rid of the problem will say here you settle it. You will see them taking more of a hand in the years to come.

The UN could be very important today if they had one thing, or maybe two, balls. The UN should have kicked the sht out of Saddam years ago. As my mother says her professor once told her of the UN, "It is a tiger with rubber teeth."

Much of it is useless. However, UNICEF for instance is a wonderful organization. It's politically a eye roller, but don't dismiss it's charitable/humanitarian uses.

you could say me puedes ayudar or puedes ayudarme, the two are proper. In Spanish, the adjective many times follows the noun it describes so which you will possibly say "Estoy casado con una mujer linda" and "Mi plato favorito es pescado."
