The essay has to be at least 4 typed pages. I can use any term that is considered a "negative character judgment" Examples would include: arrogance, conceit, prejudice, chauvinism, etc. I don't have any clue how to even begin writing this much less picking one word and writing 4 pages about it. Any help would be appreciated.

Any other ideas with which word I should choose would also be appreciated.

How about "When does confidence cross the boundries into conceit" ?

OR

Why is it when a man is of a strong decisive nature, he is a natural leader, a man who knows his mind.... but, when a woman has the same characteristics, she is considered stodgy, opinionated or just an out-and-out B*tch.

OR

The difference between being being called eccentric versus crazy?

What determines if someone is a "failure", in our own eyes, versue a family member's eyes, versus a stranger's eyes. The part ambition plays in it.

Or take words that can be both negative and positive depending on how they are used. Such as, being inflexable, or strict, or pride. Being proud..... could be a good thing.... could be a bad thing....

Just a few ideas

I suggest picking something, like one of the things you suggest.

Then doing some research, start explaining the past and present cultural significance of that attribute from areas all over the world.

That's how I'd tackle this one.

first pick a word, and then give a history of how that word has evolved through time. Its origins, from where is it derived (Greek, Latin, etc.) Does it have more than one meaning, different meanings in different cultures.
