Dont forget, that money didn't always exist. People would often barter for their needs beyond that which they could produce for themselves.

Meanwhile, back in the 25th century, there would probably be some people who do nothing more than kick back. Replicator technology would mean that food and clothing is available for the dialing.

Meanwhile, you must reconize that the human condition is to want more, to never be satisfied with what one has. That, alone would drive someone to make the effort to do more.

Suppose one of those kickin' back people wanted a week in Tahiti. No reason to expect that transporters are built, installed and maintained for free. A person may have to have earned some kind of "credit" to get more that his minimal allotment of food, shelter and clothing.

Power is also a great motivator. Why would a captain want to be admiral? An admiral gets to tell captains what to do. An admiral gets to make policy decisions and influence the bigger picture. An admiral gets a bigger apartment, or house, fancier bed linens and access to better company. A captain a bit less, a commander, a little less, a lieutenant even less, a yeoman less and on down to the lowest grease monkey in the hydraulics room. (I'll bet he has to share with a few room mates.)

On one episode of celebrity Treck the subsequent era a youthful woman aboard the employer got here across she replaced right into a Q. She used those powers to make First Officer Riker fall head over heels in love along with her against his will or perhaps awareness. Sensing how empty that replaced into after a little while, she released her carry on his techniques, will, physique. and soul. God could do the comparable concern yet He refuses biblically. he won't violate loose will for those He needs organic, actual, totally chosen companionship with.

Money does exist (e.g. in the form of Gold-pressed Latinum) however due to the fact that they have replicators etc. there is no need for people to go hungry... some people who do not enjoy that type of comfortable lifestyle colonised uninhabited worlds in order to set up their own ideal societies independent of the Federation...

I thought money did exist, just that the Federation didn't use currency. I think I heard something about Federation Credits on more than one occasion.

Simple desire to be better, to do just that much better. But, there is money in Star Trek, and the federation issues it to them.

Star Trek currency is latinum, incased in silver/gold/platinum.
