but tell me why??
Isn't PROMETHEUS the best? He broke the rule and gave us,oh thy pittyful mortals -fire! and for us he's being eaten by an eagle every single day over and over, tied down to Karpathes...

Athena. She came right out of Zeus' skull, full grown and in armor. Plus she was the goddess of wisdom.

I like your question :-)

Promotheus rocks! You know what? I think that ancient Greeks made much more sense than any kind of religious & spiritual beliefs.

---

My favourite mythological character is: KHAEOS.

It is usually written "Chaos". It is the nothingness-entity who created everything, according to ancient Greeks. It has nothing to do with "chaotic" nor "destruction".

Khaeos pre-existed the whole Universe.

I used to use "Khaeos" as nickname for a while, now I use the corresponding adjective "Khaean".

---

Quotes from links below:

"Chaos was the original void of existence (although sometimes described as being a confusing, shapeless entity which was later ordered, creating the cosmos.

Gaea, the Earth, emerged from the Chaos, and gave birth to Ouranos, the Heaven, with whom she bore the first gods, The Titans.

The word is derived from the greek 'Khaos', which means "gaping void"."

-

Theogonia:

According to Hesiod's Theogonia (The origin of the Gods), Chaos was the nothingness out of which the first objects of existence appeared. These first beings, described as children of Chaos alone, were Gaia (the Earth), Tartarus (the Underworld), Nyx (the darkness of the night), and Erebus (the darkness of the Underworld). Thus, at the very start of his story, Hesiod establishes the deities related to each element known to man, beginning with the primordial elements: the Earth, the starry Sky, the Sea.

-

Khaeos is the Creating-Nothingness which came into being before anything else.

Khaeos's offsprings:
Gaea (Earth), Nyx, Erebus, Tartarus & Eros.

Khaeos > Gaea
Gaea > Ouranos
Gaea + Ouranos > Kronos (Titans' leader)
Kronos + Rhea > Zeus (Olympians' Leader)

-

It is told that during the war between the TITANS and the OLYMPIANS, the fight came to such a degree of intensity that an amazing heat seized Khaeos.

---

I love Titans a lot too :-)

But Khaeos is my favorite mythological character...

I love ancient greek mythology so much :-)

I agree that Prometheus was pretty cool. He according to myth did enable ourselves to become the most powerfull mortal on earth. I personally like griffons or Freja the Norse goddess of war best.

Actually, I don't think she is a myth, but legends grew around her and the truth was lost in the mists of tIme. She was Morgan of the Druids who was powereful, yet fragile creature, who know great passion, and had mystic powers , I believe she has lived many times and is perhaps, now, waiting in the Summerlands for another rebirth.

Odin or Wotan

He hung on a tree for nine days, crucified in order to learn the secrets of Runes.

He then shared his wisdom with others.

The lesson is that even the gods must suffer for something of value.

During Ragnarok, all the most powerful gods will die. I like the grim finality of the Norse. It teaches us to make the most of this life and not to wait for a better life "next time".

I do not worship any god, but I value these lessons.

I've always liked Athena, because I feel a connection to her. She's the Goddess of Wisdom, and the arts. She's also the Goddess of Battle, which sometimes everyone has to do. She was a weaver, as am I. I also like owls, lol.

Clearly it has to be Jesus Christ. The power of the story of his life, his origin and his destiny, with elements of extreme tragedy and "divine" comedy, his supernatural abilities used to administer justice and compassion, and the ideals that only a mythological figure could hope to emulate, have made the story so believable that numerous and powerful cults have arisen over the centuries that call upon their versions of that myth as a revealed truth.
