well, it could be two things:
1. Your girlfriend (or wife?) slept with somebody else and conceived their child.
2. Genetics. Even if you and she are both african american, your child can possibly turn out looking "mixed." Because historically speaking, all African Americans have some ammount of European blood in them...if you can see it in their appearance or not. Somebody can be part white and look completely black (and vice versa!) It's all the amazing thing called genetics. You and/or your partner may have some European blood in you, and your child aquired those genes and turned out looking "mixed." It's highly possible...I know people like that! Isn't it great? It makes us all diverse!

I'd be asking for a DNA test. I have never heard of a genetic fluke that makes a child mixed. Sometimes African-American babies can be born all white because of a condition that causes them to lose the pigment in their skin but I don't think you can get half of a condition.

It has to do with either yours or your wifes ancestors. Somewhere down the line===someone was white. I have two wonderful mixed grandchildren that I love dearly. Their dad thought he was all black until he found out he had a white mother. She had adopted him out. I would have kept mine if they were black or white or any other color for that matter. Color doesn't matter.

You're kid isn't mixed. It is that you or the kids mother carries a light skinned gene.

Believe it or not, that is a possible thing to happen. It's got something to do with the bloodlines on both your and your girl's family history.
