The right to remain silent is the individual's right to opt out of the conversation/group. Since we are community animals (for the most part), then we have a hard time exercising that right to just not be part of the group. The difficulty goes up exponentially if you are married, have kids, etc. because there is a constant chatter that has to be maintained or they lock you up for being too antisocial.

Because we're all encouraged from an early age to say something, preferably what's on our minds or whatever terminology you wanna use. This is harnessed and amplified throughout school and other general social conditioning.
Which, in fact, makes remaining silent extremely difficult to do for "long" periods of time.

I like your question.

Um, actually you don't always.

You're referring to the Fifth Amendment. I know you're sorta kidding, but literally . . .

I just got done serving 13 months of a 18 month sentence for contempt of court, for exercising my "Right to remain silent."

I like this questions. It is really mind bending. But I think the answer is easy, we all want to be important, we think what we have to say is important and others want to hear, even if it is not and even if we understand they don't want to hear it, we are gonna talk come hell or high water, after all, we all have two things in common in this world, not color, not country, not sex are we separated by them, they are: assholes and opinions and certainly our opinions can make real assholes out of us all. But we love em anyways...don't we. LOL

It is kind of funny, when we arent supposed to talk we talk, and when we are we dont.. I think its related partially to a rebellious nature, the ones who are being read this right, are usually to caught up with adrenaline and the "oh ****" mentality that they forget and dont care, doesnt help if your drunk either..

Ron White says it's caused by being "DRUNK IN PUBLIK", could be the reason. Another thought is perhaps we all think that what we have to say is so important everyone just naturally wants to hear it.
