My daughter finished kindergarten as "level 4" reader.
We did a summer reading program and now at the start of 1st grade she's now a "level 12".

What does "level 12" mean? Is it 2nd grade level, or advanced 1st grade? If someone knows the answer that'd make my afternoon, thanks!

That doesn't sound like a univeral level. It must be particular to the reading program you are using. Find out the publisher of the program, and run a search for "__________ reading level 12". You should be able to find out how that corresponds to grade level.

Most other reading programs use a more obvious system: Woodcock Johnson, the commonly used special education assessment, for example uses: level 1.0 = where the average 1st grader would be at the start of the school year; level 1.5 = 1st grader, mid year; 3.9 = third grader in the later part of the year; etc.

It depends on what the curriculum is , UK, USA or is it a foreign curriculum. I am, however, assuming that like most schools, each grade has a set of given readers according to their given curriculum in a set of levels, something like GINN books. Each level of book has a certain number of books that are read before moving to the next level.

Since your daughter is doing well in reading, you should try not to rush her with the levels. Let her read with pleasure at her own pace. This way she will enjoy reading her books more.

Also, reading the books is not just about reading the words, it is also about discussing the pictures, personality of the characters, and places etc in the books. Once she reaches grades 3-4 ( depends on school curriculum) she may get reading comprehension questions about the books she reads in the class ( group reading) at the time.

Some students get bored when they have to read the books again for a test, so I suggest you also have your own resources of books at home for her.

Take your time with her to discuss as well as reading through them. You can ask her teacher what she thinks of her reading level to get an idea of progress as her teacher will have a better idea.

it is via no toddler left at the back of. it is happening in intense college too. there is plenty stress for little ones to do nicely on the attempt because of the fact if no longer the college looses investment and gets positioned on the watch checklist. instructors are no longer incorporating techniques right into a lesson yet extremely coaching to the attempt.
