With Skype to Skype calls I can't hear the person calling me. What's wrong?

There are a number of steps you can take in order to help you with hearing the other person calling you via Skype.

1 - Try calling Echo123, if you can hear the automatic response, your playback device (earphones, speakers, etc) is set up correctly and the problem is possibly with the person you are talking with.

2- If you can not hear Echo123 correctly, check that your preferred playback device is selected as the Audio Out device in: Skype --> Tools --> Options --> Sound Devices.

(Note: In Version 1.1 and lower this can be found under File --> Options --> Sound Devices)

3- Test Echo123 again to see if switching the sounds devices worked.

If none of these steps work you might need to adjust your computers sound setup. Have a look at our Sounds Setup Guide which can help you with that.

I had the same problem, its usually the headset mike. If you plug it in via the headphone jack, you can hear the person on the other end, but they can't hear you. There should be a jack in the back, either one jack or a dual jack. You need a headset (headphone) with mike that will plug into those jacks. Take the computer into an electronic's store and get the proper headset. Mine has two jacks. Even contact the Skype help-line.

make sure that you have a microphone and it is plugged into the right port on the front or back of the compute
next
open open the volume control
go to options then properties
in the bottom box look for microphone (its near the bottom of the list) make sure it is checked
then go to options then make sure there is a check next to advanced controls, if there isnt just click it then in the spot where the microphone section is check the box so that it IS muted (this is so you dont here it on YOUR own computer it will still go through the calling thing)
then click advanced and check 1 mic boost hit close and it should work
