Check your radiator...make sure it is clean. It may be clogged up with bugs and debris. It may help to clean the system. Drain the cooling system, put a half cup of laundry detergent in, fill with water. Drive for 3 days (200-300 miles). Drain the cooling system and refill with 60:40 antifreeze to water mixture. That should fix the problem. Good luck.

Are the fans really working? No water in oil? Overheating at slow speed, but OK temps at high speed is a radiator problem. Either the airflow thru the radiator is restricted, or the radiator itself is plugged up on the inside. What did the coolant look like when you changed thermostat?

for a car that old...the catalytic converter may be clogged. start the car and go to the back and see how much exhaust is coming out. if it doesn't have much that is most likely the problem..also have some one rev the engine a bit to see if the exhaust seems ample. You will know almost right away if it's that as there will be virtually no exhaust coming out. this will cause over heating problems and will also cause loss of power. if not fixed right away it will also cause severe engine damage
