She is my younger brother's widow, I was in town for the funeral. We never were "close". Perhaps she is working through an anger stage of grief? I have not responded. I heard about this when my daughter called her on the phone.

be upfront and ask her is that what she thinks,just because she is grieving doesnt give her the right to acuse someone of stealing she should know that if she is a decent sort of person

Yeah that is definitely a stage of grief thing. Just be prepared to defend yourself and veer away from her until she's rearranged all her mental cookies in her mental cookie jar shelf.

It's tough being coherent though, when one loses a spouse.

Cut her some slack, but be cautious in her environment in order to re-establish trust with her and for you to protect yourself from being again falsely accused.

It is crucial that you tell her in a peaceful manner- with an eye witnes- that you are appalled that she accuses you behind your back like that...then tell her that you are sad about your brother's passing, too...but you will not make other people feel more miserable than they already do by making such terrible accusations...Stay calm ...then leave.
