Steve Howe and the hall of fame are seperate issues.
However, I can't honor the hall until they put Pete Rose into the hall.
I am 44 and I saw Pete play when I was a kid. Because of Pete, I too hustled to first base all the time and he made me feel it was my duty to give it 100% all the time. No matter what game I played. Even in sales, I hustle and enjoy cold calling.
Pete Rose, despite his gambling (which was a bad thing, granted), has set a good example for youth and for baseball.
He has not played the right political games to get in the hall.
But getting into the hall should be determined what happened ON the field, not off. McGwire, Bonds, Sosa and those other cheaters by using steroids and HGH cheated on the field. Those bums had better not be selected for the hall I tell you that. Especially if Pete is still not let in.

Absolutely not. Unlike most Halls of Fame, the Baseball Hall of Fame counts character as well as performance. Betting on games while he could influence the outcome clearly disqualifies him. His accomplishments are recognized; that is more than enough. In fact, he is given way too much credit. Pete Rose was nothing more than a hard-playing singles hitter who happened to stay healthy for a long career. If he hadn't cultivated a personality to become a fan favorite, he would have been forgotten already by everyone except stats freaks.

Yes he should be allowed into the Hall of Fame. Right now it is not hypocritical because Pete Rose lied about betting on baseball for so long. Had he owned his actions when he was accused then I would agree, but since he didn't baseball can say no for awhile longer.

Pete was a great player who deserves entry into the HOF based on his lifetime acheivements as a player. But Pete denied over and over doing what MLB knew he had done (betting on baseball). Pete probably won't ever be in the HOF and this is his punishment for his constant denials of his guilt. Of course, MLB is looking the other way to a great extent with the rampant steroid and HGH usuage over the past several years. The baseball fan knows what has happened and I believe most have already decided that Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, and others cheated and will recognize these cheaters as great HR hitters. Aaron, Mantle, Frank Robinson and others were great HR hitters.

No, the only way that Rose gets in the Hall of Fame is by buying a ticket (it's only for 1 day). He admitted to betting on baseball, which is THE cardinal rule for baseball. Steve Howe is not getting int the Hall either.

Apples and oranges. Steve Howe is not a HOF candidate. Personally, they should put Petey in after he dies. Simply put, he broke the main rule that is posted on every clubhouse door--no betting on baseball. It's why Judge Landis banned the Black Sox.
Abusing drugs is nly hurting yourself really. Abusing the trust of baseball fans and the sport by betting on it is abhorrent.

He should be allowed in. The Hall of Fame does only represents events on the field. Think about Roberto Clemente. He died trying to deliver supplies to those who needed them. What does the Hall say to honor him: nothing. If off-the-field qualities count so much, why isn't he given credit for that. If Clemente isn't given credit, how can Rose be held responsible for his actions? Though I hate Rose for lying so long, he has great stats, so I don't see how he could be kept out of the Hall.

Yes, Pete Rose's performance as a player demands that he be in the Hall of Fame. They allow people to be in the Hall of Fame that break the law. Not to mention he only bet that his team would win. It isn't like he was throwing games.

Steve Howe does not have Hall of Fame Credentials.
How about Barry Bonds and Pete Rose go in the Hall of Fame together because both of them corrupted the game except Barry, McGuire and Sosa had Bud Selig's blessing to take steroids to save baseball after the strike. Meanwhile, Rose bet on games thanks to his own stupidity.
I want to see Rose in the Hall of Fame for amassing the most base hits because he deserves that recognition - not Barry, McGuire, Sosa and their league sanctioned steroid use.
If the league told them to juice up, they are protected from legal action under the antitrust exemption.

If they do make Pete Rose a Hall of Famer, they'll wait till he's dead. Baseball's commisioner is a piece of crap, and forgive me for saying this Babe, Lou, Whitey, and the other Yanks, but the Hall of Fame ain't worth crap without Rose in it.
So he was a crooked manager... induct him as a player. Rose did more for baseball than alot of people taking up space in the Hall right now. Yes, baseball is hypocritical. It's the commisioners fault, and hopefully he drops dead before Rose does, so Rose can get a chance to enjoy the moment.
EDIT: I completely agree with Orthodox Ted below me a few posts. If this comes down to voting he's got mine.
