It might be fun!

I might pick later in the 19th century. The time of Dickens, or Queen Victoria.

Christmastime seems to be when the Victorian traditions come to life. There is a little oceanside town near where I live - Cape May, New Jersey (US) - where they emphasize the "traditional" Victorian Christmas.

There are a lot of interesting aspects to the Regency, but live there? No thanks! Even if you were rich, there are a lot of downsides -- like, no medicines and the doctors were butchers! Not even aspirin for a headache! Pretty good chance that half your children would die in infancy. The legal system basically dependent on who you bribed. Women routinely physically abused and financially ruined by drunken brutish husbands. A very strong class system that you could break through only by acquiring huge amounts of money -- and that was mainly done by the most outrageous acts of exploitation of working people (from enclosure to 16 hour working days for 8 year old kids!)
Yes, I love Jane Austen and the image she makes of living life at 10,000 pounds a year. But in the Regency there were several million people in Britain and the number with 10,000 a year could be counted practically on your fingers. Without some seriously creative anachronisms removing a lot ofthese problems, I'll take the good old 21st century.

Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. Women were still supposed to be submissive to men. The literature isn't bad though. In fact, I like it. Jane Austen is one of my influences and one of my future novels will take place in 19th century England (but not during the regency...more like LATE 19th century).

If I could bring back a ton of gold and silver, gems and jewels. Plus get all my shots up-to-date. Sure. I would end up being one of the greatest inventors in history for all the ideas I would steal and promote way before their time.

Not unless I had servants to do all the cleaning, cooking, laundry, and fill bath tubs. People used cologne to cover their body odor in those days. ew
