IDE and SATA
Just open up the case and see whether your dirve is connected through a wide white coloured 'sheet' of cable or whether its connected to a single thin wire that goes directly into your motherboard.
If its the wide one then its IDE or the other one is SATA , which is better IMO

ATA (IDE, EIDE), Serial ATA (SATA), SCSI, SAS, IEEE are all apparently hard drive types. I had only hear of SATA and ATA. I knew SATA was better though.
If you want to know what ype you have why don't you go to the website of whatever brand of computer you have (Dell, HP, Mecer, etc) and type in the model of computer you have. They should show exactly what is in your machine!

EIDE and SATA
EIDE and before that IDE are the parallel drives that get hooked up to the IDE1 connector on the mother board.
SATA connectors are for one drive each only (IDE connectors allow 2 drives to be connected) and are much smaller
IDE drives are hooked up via ribbon cables that have two drive connectors and the connector for the motherboard.
