Sharm el Sheik is the most amazing place and my favourite in the world. I have just bought an apartment there and have been 10 times in the past two years. I have been there alone and with my kids and have made lots of friends and feel much safer than I would in a strange town here. The money is easy to work out, just base it on 10 egyptian pounds to one english pound.
namma Bay is great for eating out as it has loads of lovely restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It is quite cosmopolitan and has hard Rock Cafe, Little Buddah, Pizza Hut, Mcdonalds and KFC but also cuisine from all over the world.
the weather, diving and snorkling is amazing and the people are very friendly. You do get hastled to go into shops etc, but if youve been to Turkey its much the same as in the rest of the arab world but all you have to say is la-a shockran which means no thankyou or just say no thankyou and you will be left alone. Expect to haggle for everything and think to pay about a third of there first asking price. Always fix your price before you get in a taxi Be Kem? How much and they know you wont be ripped off, if you dont like their price just say no thankyou and walk away, they will either chase after you giving you your price or another taxi wil, Sharm is full of them, you never have to wait for a taxi!
Im sure you will have the most amazing time, good luck, hope you do and just dont worry, no harm will come to you.

Just arrived back from sharm. Went to ras um sidd for the day. A very busy beach but lots to do. Nearby is a memorial to the peoplekilled there in 2004. Alovely place to visit we have been twice and and we are definately going again. You only need a visa if you are going outof Sharm. You can get one on the airport. St Catherines monestery is a good day out. a very interesting place but takes awhile to get there. Travelling through the Sanai desert. Watch for the bedoin children they can be very persuasive. Dont worry about going you will have a great time. Theyuse Egyptian pounds.

Sharm el-Sheikh could be the Sinai Peninsula's key tourism centre and one of many world's top diving locations and today you may get there your vacation with assistance from this place hotelbye . Sharm el Sheikh is among Egypt's most useful places if you would like to chill out on the beach, and it is a preferred by family vacations as a result of outstanding services on offer. Whether you're here for the mud or the fish life, Sharm el-Sheikh is a good choice for a beach break after discovering the temples and tombs in the remaining country. Also, fringed with a white sand beach and swaying side woods, Naama Bay is the epicentre of Sharm el-Sheikh's resort life. There are considerable restaurants, cafés, and souvenir stores if you get bored of the sand, but Naama Bay is truly all about the beach.

Egyptian Pounds(5000 max), Sterling Travellers Cheques and British Pounds, I will also take my credit/debit cards but not sure how widely they are used as I have never been to Egypt before.

..............Yep(Sharm El Sheik). Lovely people, you may find them a bit intimidating, but they very honest people. The Pyramids are disappointing though, very overrated. But the museum in Cairo is fantastic. Cairo is very busy but I felt very safe, go to the big market there, its brilliant. Also take a trip up the Nile at night, superb views. You can get a local bus from Sharm El Sheik for around £3, around 6 hour trip, I went at night, so I could sleep. Then you can take the underground to the station closest to the Pyramids. Then a short taxi ride to the Pyramids them self.
Learn just one bit of Arabic: Salam alah coome (not the actual spelling, but its how to pronounce) It means God be with you. It makes people smile and stops people trying to sell you stuff or hassle you. Good luck, enjoy

relax...i have been researching becoz i am moving there (ie cairo) frm cape town south africa and in my opinion based on my research there are many ways you can look at it. basically its an adventure...and its not home. hot and dusty and crowded is as bad as its gonna get but then again you are experiencing a diferent way of life ...sharm el sheik is aparantly like "paradise". foreigners are loved by egyptians...they are super friendy helpful and kind.

my advice enjoy it ...create memories that you can look back on fondly or tell your grandkids about.

peace be with you and your family
