mass/volume

The classroom way is to take a container of water.

Know the volume of the water in the container. You can use a clear glass container with measurement markings or you can use a volume formula to figure out the volume of water.

Dip the item you wish to know the density into the water. Then see how high the water rises and that will give you the volume of the item.

Then you weigh the item and that the weight which you can call mass of the item and devide it by the volume you found out.

Mass/volume

You can also look up the specific gravity (density) of items on many different websites. See below for a link.

practically, you can fill a container with water. since you know the mass of water 1g/1ml, when you put an item in water, you can its density by knowing how much does the water level rises when you put an item in it. and find the weight of that item first by using a balance. if you don't want to know the density, but just compare which object is bigger, put them in a water tank, note the level to which the water rises, then remove it and put the other item, then by comparison, you can deduct which one was bigger.

Find its volume and its weight (mass). Then find the weight of an equal volume of water (STP). Then divide the weight of the item by the weight of the water. Presto! You got density!

density = mass / volume

Divide the kg (mass) by the m^3 or cm^3 to get the density

mass/volume

mass is the same as weight on Earth, found using a balance or scale of some kind

volume is the amount of space an object occupies, and is found by a mathematical formula or by using water displcement
