Happy Kwanzaa, Happy Ramadan, Happy Hannukka - great! I have no problem wishing these things to people.
So why do the christians have to tip-toe around for fear of offending other people? They know when christmas is, they know what to expect. Christmas!
What are your views ? Another example of political correctness gone mad?
thanks

I have a thing about "xmas " too. I heard that this word was created so as to take the "christ" out of christmas and just replace it with a generic "x". (but i do sometimes write it on cards out of laziness !

Nobody has tip-toe around anyone. Say Happy Christmas (or Merry Christmas for those of us in the States) w/o fear of offending. You know why? Because you CAN'T offend anyone. People CHOOSE to be offended, and since it is THEIR CHOICE, you have no control over it.

"Another example of political correctness gone mad?"

Absolutely. It's like the original intent of PC has done a 180 and became what it was trying to overcome, intolerance. I am for Political Correctness, but when someone has to practically hide who they are because of a few that may be 'insulted' then the main intent of PC has gone down the toilet.

I wish people what ever I feel like wishing them, it's all meant out of a sincere wish that they enjoy the season and the holiday that they celebrate.

CTM, in the states it's Merry Christmas. In England it's Happy Christmas.

If I know for certain what holiday they celebrate, I wish them a Happy Specific Holiday (Merry Christmas, or Happy Chanukkah, for instance.) If I don't know, then I say Happy Holidays. What's so hard about this? As far as I can see, it's a complete non-issue, and no one should be so worked up about it.
Oh, and by the way, I don't think "Happy Ramadan" is ever appropriate. It's a month of fasting, comtemplation, etc. Not a hoo-hah happy celebration.

Yep, it's crazy! I'm Christian, and I celebrate Christmas so I say Merry Christmas! If I know that someone celebrates something else, then I wish them Happy whatever the holiday is. Don't see what the big deal is.

I say "happy holidays" if I don't really know the person. It's not about being politically correct. It's to avoid conversations like:

Me: Merry Christmas!!
Person: Umm....thanks, but I'm Jewish.
Me: Oh.....umm....merry...errr... happy Hanukkah?

Happy holidays covers all December holidays, and it's simpler that way. If I know they celebrate Christmas, I'll say "Merry Christmas". Otherwise, no.

It is MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Happy Holidays came about because so many people that didn't believe in Christmas didn't the ones that do to be able to use the Merry Christmas during their holiday.

So stores started saying Happy Holidays.

Whatever ???

I say Merry Christmas. That is what we are celebrating. It's Christ's birth. If people get offended too bad. This country was based on christianity. Reguardless of what people say and do, they can't change it..

i say merry christmas...and i dont change for other religions and or people because they have their own religion im sure Jahovah Witnesses dont walk around saying happy birthday or happy easter or merry christmas to anyone so why bother...if everyone is so worried about offending people by mentioning celebrations of another religion then y bother having a religion at all. its hypocritcal to anyone that doesnt embrace their own religion and or celebrations for them just to trn around and whisper about it when other cultral influences are around them. i mean if u say merry christmas to a jew, fine, but they have the right to say happy hannukka right back, just dont take offence!
