The products of our education system show their lack of spelling ability and understanding of basic grammar. Sometimes the questions are so poorly written, I cannot figure out what the questioner is asking.
I wonder if the "Check Spelling" box gets used by some people. Consider this horrible thought: one of our education products does use the spell checker and does not know which word is correct, when he sees more than one choice?!

I feel this is because most people do not think about an answer before submitting it. Good grammar and spelling should be a priority within education, but sadly, in this day of text messaging, is comes second place. However, let's be fair, to get a reply that has spelling mistakes, is better than no reply at all.

Don't be so perfect. This is a place where people are having a good time and I can spell any word in the dictionary, but I don't check my spelling here very often because it takes too long! LOL

It's appalling. I could understand if there wasn't a spell-check provided, but it's absolute laziness. I really worry about kids today (I'm only 30, I know I sound like an old woman)! How on earth are they going to be able to fill out job application forms in the future?
'i fink dat i wud b gud at dis job cuz i am da bomb'
Scary....
One thing that REALLY winds me up though, is the American spellchecker. It makes me want to use very coloUrful language!
EDIT
Wow, take it all back, the spell-checker suggested I change that capital U, but still said it was the correct spelling. YES! English English wins!

Some people cant spell, including me. Id be lost without spell check. Also, too many people criticise other peoples spelling. Why not look through the spelling mistakes and see what is being said?

No one seems to care about correct spelling or grammar here. I read an article that stated even teachers who have graduated after spending 4 years in college, make many mistakes in English. Somewhere we have broken the chain of good education. Science and mathmatics test statistics seem to be better but language art's statistics in regard to failures is hign. There is not enough reading and attention to detail.

As a poll of spelling ability - check out the answers to your question. At least six replies mention "spell check" as the answer to good spelling.
So we can see that lots of people now rely on a computer to spell for them and no longer rely on their own learning.
(Having said that I am just as reliant on a calculator for maths:)

people have the option of being free on this site and its a relief not to have the English teacher looking over your shoulder and inadequate spelling is not a sign of lower intelligence by the way!
