They made a rush decision on the last day. There definition of "planet" excludes 3 of the 8, including this one, as well. It might be overturned in 2009.
Amateur astronomers have been using the excuse that as more knowledge is discovered in science occassionally we have to redefine things. That doesn't change the fact that Earth isn't alone in it's orbit either.

Sorry, honey, I hate it too. Especially since we have a Disney character named after Pluto. But with all these new telescopes, those 'goofy scientist' had to set a standard to determine what 'size' an object had to be before we could classify it as a planet. There are just too many planet-like objects in the sky. Pluto had to be demoted because there are bigger and 'badder' boys out there! Plus, how would you have liked to memorize the names of all those fellas?????

Pluto is part of Keiper Belt along with other rocks. If you want to call Pluto a planet, you would have to call the other rocks planets too because there isn't any significant difference between the other rocks and Pluto.

i think it is really cool...
not that i dont like pluto...
just the fact that the scientists were trying to redefine the definition of a planet in order to add two more, but ended up getting rid of one.
that just goes to show you how great our scientists are
but i have another point. now pluto is a dwarf-planet. but doesnt that mean that it is still a planet?
if a cell phone is a phone and a rain coat is a coat, shouldnt a dwarf planet be a planet?

In antient times... in antient times people would have burned you as a witch.
Pluto has not been demoted. We stopped calling it something it's not and gave it and other large non-planets a shiney new name "Dwarf Planet". Pluto has always been a comet, not a planet so it's about time those goofy scientists stopped calling it that.
As I've explained before. It's like you have a younger sibling you refer to as your brother for years, as your parents learn more about what boys and girls are they realize your brother is a girl! So why keep calling her your brother, you should call her what she is: your sister.

Well, since Tombaugh (the discoverer of Pluto) ended up as a tenured professor at my university, I hate them...lol.
Seriously, I think they are correct. Pluto is less like a planet than an asteroid...

Because its not a planet. It used to look bigger because of its moon Charon, they thought it was bigger than it really was.
Personally I don't really care. I don't grow attached to planets like they're my pets or something. Besides, people are still gonna call it Pluto.

I dunno, 'cause they did what was 'correct' for the sake of science and humanity as well. But, of course, Pluto has been with us all for more than decades, and I, for one, grew up to the 'fact' of the 9th planet, Pluto. So in the end, it's society vs science, which means it's up to you

Oh my...and you think the scientists are the goofy ones? *rolling eyes*
If you're are going to believe every bit of absurdity you read on the internet or see on television, then the rest of us cannot help you.

it was probably hand out time for grant money from the government, so they had to do something to make it look like they were doing something.
