rise = -18000 feet (negative since it is going down)
run = 13 miles = 13 x 5280 feet = 68640 feet

slope = rise / run
= -18000 / 68640
= -0.262237762

Round to the nearest 1/100
= -0.26

slope= rise/run

you have to first convert your 13 miles into feet:

13 times 5280 = 68640 feet.

You do this so that your terms on your graph will be the same:
ex: 18,000 feet
and 68,640 feet

Then, your airplane is going down, not up...so make 18,000 negative: -18,000

y= rise/ up and down: -18,000

x=run/ left to right: 68,640

slope= -18,000/68,640

slope= -.26 feet

the hint gives it away...

13 miles converted to feet is..._________
then you have two numbers, both in feet.
the slope is "rise" over "run", which means the altitude divided by the distance travelled...round to the nearest hundredth.

I won't give you the answer, but I think I have provided enough hints...

Slope is rise over run or y/x

So this would be 3.41/13

decimal version rounded is 0.26

since plane is going down it would be -0.26..indicating you decend (Y axis) 0.26 miles for every mile traveled along the route (sideways or X axis)
