I'd definitely be offended and unfortunately, allow it to bother me for a long time. That's not the only way to deal with the problem, though. These days, I try to see other's behavior (and my own) for what it really is: a reaction to something that may have nothing to do with what's going on at the time. When it comes to sports, it's not "just a game" for some of us, as you discovered. Their competitiveness might not equal sportsmanship. Because you did your job well, he failed to accomplish what he wanted (to make it to the base). The failure might be more than he can stand (maybe he's been taught that failure on any level is the worst thing there is), so instead of respecting you for your skills, he needs to attack you and bring you down. This allows him to take the focus off of the fact that he, well, failed, and he avoids having to think about it and process it. At least I think that could be going on, but we'll never know for sure. The only thing you can do is manage your own behavior. Ignore this person's remarks if you can. They're only words, after all (and for heaven's sake...keep the baseball bat out of this!).

No one can make you feel bad about yourself without your permission. Do tell them...."you do not have my permission to say that to me and don't flatter yourself by thinking that what your opinion is of me, means anything to me". Some people just have never learned to keep their mouths shut.
