I AM SICK OF HEARING YOU PEOPLE ON HERE SAY THAT THE RICH SHOULD COVER YOUR SORRY BUTTS AND PAY THE LION'S SHARE OF THIS NATIONS TAXES.

We have a huge tax bill and NO LOOPHOLES and NO DEDUCTIONS. What is your problem. Get off your butts and earn your own money and stop expecting my family to pay your way all the time.

Middle and upper incomes are screwed. The rest of you do not even pay taxes.

Hey Russ - do we use any more roads than you? No. Do we pay for our own health care? yes Do we put a burden on social security? No - we work. We don't get paid to sit at home and take drugs because we can't work because of our addiction "disease". Do we use more...GET IT?

JH - you are so full of it. We pay more in taxes than you probably make so STHU.
IF you were smart, made any money whatsoever - you would know this to be true.

There is only a CAP on the tax of social security. There is no CAP on the tax you pay on income. 500 K pays the top bracket and so does 300 K . What are you talkinga about. The same PERCENTAGE of those incomes goes to taxes.

Kay-Kay - No sir - I do not agree with you...But, here's my advice for you - get an education with all the grant money out there that I fund with my taxes and get a better job.

dinodino - we are not RICH like you describe but we are in the highest tax bracket and do not get the deductions everyone else gets. We are the ones who have a great life and worked for every penny we have only to be labeled "rich" (not) and taxed like heck.

inspector...I do not want to pay for the "privlage" of being well off...that's crazy. I want everyone to pay their FAIR SHARE. I know I have to pay more taxes because we make more, but should I pay 39% of my income while others pay 15%. I am for a FLAT TAX.
Boasting - NO! No one on this site KNOWS me. I am stating FACTS about my situations. I have a good life and I am not going to apologize for it. We worked hard for it and have had ups and downs like anyone else. What is different about what I say compared to people who always state things about their life and it is opposite of mine. THEY ARE JUST FACTS.

I am totally with you buddy.
The people making those statements don't understand how the tax brackets work because they don't have to pay taxes on the welfare they collect. Don't bother to try to argue with people of a lesser intelligence. That is something I learned a LONG time ago.

The middle class and upper middle class get deductions for children, for mortgage interest, real estate taxes and for IRA contributions. If you don't own a home you aren't middle class.

Obviously you are not Rich enough to take advantage of the reduction in Capital Gains and Taxes on dividends as you don't own any stocks or bonds and can't afford tax free bonds like the rich do. Taxes are higher on earned income than they are gains from investments which is how many rich people make money, because they already had money, and these people for sure don't work for it.

Also, you don't understand how corporate America works where the top people make 300% and more than the average worker, make the most money off of "doing deals", have extra compensation deals given to them by friendly boards that pay off whether they do a good job or not. How much work is done to make a 50,000,000 bonus because gas prices went up 150%?

Upper Incomes are not screwed. You have no concept of upper incomes if you believe that. The deal isn't that great for the upper middle but the wealthy are doing just fine and getting wealthier every day. Upper incomes -- I'm talking about people making 20,000,000 and more and people with net worths from 100 million on up -- that's wealthy in my book in this day and age. And plenty of people with High Net Worth have no need to work for pay and don't -- they just collect interest and dividends.

Addition: Yes RLP you are not rich by my standards -- you are Upper Middle Class - I was kind of implying that you are at the top of the middle and yeah you get screwed by the ATM. I was pointing out that the real "Upper Incomes" aren't screwed as you implied. Also, you may pay a lot of taxes, but do you really want to trade places with someone living in the projects collecting welfare? I bet you want wouldn't even change places with the average family that takes in around $30,000. Don't you have a nice house, a couple of cars, take a nice vacation every year and send your kids to a decent college? Most people work for a living in this country, only the very poor and the very rich don't. I don't see why you are so pissed at a realtively small number of people on welfare -- and you know damn well you wouldn't trade places with them. Basically they just need to raise the threshold for the ATM -- and you should be wondering why the Republican President and Republican controlled congress hasn't made that happen -- while they had no problem reducing the taxes on capital gains and dividends. Yeah, somebody is screwing you and it is not some poor slob on public assistance.

Middle class incomes are taxed the hardest if i recall correctly. Upperclass businesses receive high tax breaks. it is called "wealthfare" and costs the US more than welfare. These tax breaks are part of a concept called "the trickle down effect" which depends on the integrity of big businesses to pay livable wages (and not just to CEO's) and that the money they make will trickle back down into society to benefit everyone--hense, the tax break. However, the concept is flawed because the money isn't trickling down, it is trickling up, being horded in fact. Hense, there is an ever widening gap between the social classes as people are being forced into polar ends of the social classes. This is especially apparent as the middle class is shrinking as people are either sinking to the bottom, or riding the wave to the top.

I do have a book to suggest, i sorta doubt you will read it, but i can say i attempted to offer you a perspective different than your own. Check sources below.
1) Read chapters of Down and Out in Paris and London book online
2) Another important book which analyzes human social patterns, including class and classism.

really where the hell do you get your so called facts you must not be THAT rich or you would realize that 1. there is a cap on the amount of tax you can pay 2. if you hire a CPA worth a damn you would likely be paying NO taxes 3. the lower class by percentages pays WAY more in taxes over all 4. you can actually pay a one time fee to the IRS and pay no taxes every again 5. if it really pisses you off that bad then put your money off shore like all good little rich boys and girls so you don't have to pay taxes yet still benefit from tax based and backed programs 6. god you piss me off you are sooo full of **** you obviously are not a rich person because then you would realize your question is sooo flawed because the rich have NUMEROUS ways to get out of taxes....whatever i don't know why I'm wasting my time your obviously someone who is sooo convinced they are right that you would argue the color of the sky if i tried telling you it was blue...so good day to you

Its hard being poor Sir...it truly is. You think every poor person is lazy? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That is truly sad. The reason why we are poor is because of big business men rip people off and take our money...everything is expensive now! You know what? The rich should pay more taxes, why? Because WE don't have much money!!!Please understand that Sir! We work! We just survive! We don't have the leisure of going to Hawaii once a year. We don't have the leisure of going to the movie theater. We cant buy the foods we want because of a tight budget! I am part of the lower class America Sir...and it thoroughly infuriates me how you complain about taxes that you pay. If we were to pay extra taxes...then imagine what that would do to us Sir. If we are already financally weak...what would that do to us? Please think about this Sir...

RLP, I'm sick of your whining too.

First of all, you can't throw the blanket onto the liberals for all of the whining. There ARE rich liberals. It looks like by your question and answer history that you're always throwing broad blankets of blame. Probably my husband and I fall into the upper middle class liberal category according to you even though we don't consider ourselves as liberals. We are independent thinkers, and certainly not Republican nor are we Democrats even though we support many of the Democrats' platforms (it seems we choose the lesser of two evils).

Now, my husband and I also pay a lion's share of income tax per year also. Sure, I b**** a bit about it, but it's necessary for the richer to be burdened with a greater portion of the taxes AS THEY ARE. We are paying for the luxury of even having paved roads, government services, decent schools, etc. The richer make far more than what they need to exist and basically are paying to be rich. I think of it more as a fee for having the opportunity to be prosperous, a fee for being able to live in an affluent community, a fee for having the freedoms that we do have.

I know that many of those not as well off (many of which are Republicans as well as being otherwise politically affiliated) don't even realize just how much taxes the middle class and rich pay. BUT IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO POLITICS. The majority of the population is not rich, so, when it comes around to election time, to get the majority of attention, ALL politicians start preaching how they're going to help out the working man and talking about how they're going to cut out tax loopholes and such. Which leads me to the ONLY point which I agree with you on....WHAT FREAKING LOOPHOLES ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT? We don't get any freaking loopholes! I want to know about these freaking loopholes so we can take advantage of them! All we get is a much larger percentage of money taken out of our checks!...AND THAT'S THAT! And, by the way, I'm not b****in' at anyone but the politicians who are creating hype about how they're going to cut out these loopholes that certainly don't exist for the majority of middle class and rich. These politicians, Republican, Democrat, and all others, are only creating a bizarre scenario where those who make less money are led to believe that the rich have all of these crazy loopholes where they can evade taxes.

So, just get off your high horse, swallow your incredulous, monsterous pride, and pay your taxes...not as a well to do Republican, but just as a person that's well off......and my gawd, you do boast about your financial position. Isn't boasting all the d*** time a sin?....snicker....Good Christian?.....hmmmmm.

I beleive that everyone should pay "their" fair share
Unfortunately the wealthy are not doing that!
They use by far more of the goveernment services than anyone
When the military is asked to intervene it is usually because a wealthy person will lose some of it if they don't
Iraq= Oil Companies
So why are they not paying for this?

Seeing the responses you received makes me wonder if some of these people have a brain. You do not get out of paying taxes. Democrats feed that to their uneducated masses to keep them voting for their party.

Put and simple ignorance. The changes in this regard (more income = A LOT MORE taxes) have been taking place since the '80s.

As far as the far left-wing wack-jobs go you can NEVER confuse 'em with the facts - they just refuse to let facts disturb their nonsensical world view.

Notice the votes on your question and the answers and ask yourself "So WHY didn't they reply to my question?" They never reply to substantive questions as they are uninformed and, therefore, unable to answer.

People who think that someone has $2 dollars more than they do often want one of those dollars.

My definition of a Conservative's generosity is that they are giving their own money (as I do).

My definition of a Liberal's generosity is that they are giving other people's money.
