Can somebody give me an approximate statistic on this? Please refrain from advocating or bashing circumcision. I'm trying to estimate the odds of a boy who was born recently (and not circumcized) being the "odd one out" the locker room in Middle or High School. Any statistics out there on recent circumcision rates in the US, particularly for the caucasian ethnic group? Thanks

Okay. Let's assume Maryland/metro DC/Baltimore as the area. Technically it's mid-atlantic, but most act like they are from north-east. Maybe that helps to figure out statistics. Note that I did search the web and could only find statistics on circumcision in mid and late nineties.

The latest research suggests the rate of neonatal circumcision has gone UP, especially in the Northeast or Midwest geographic region. From less than 50% in the 1980s to slightly above 60% in the late 1990s.

Nelson, et al. (2005) "The increasing incidence of newborn circumcision: data from the nationwide inpatient sample." J of Urology, 173 (3) : 978-81.

The probability varies greatly from area to area. On the west coast it's as low as like 34%ish for being circumcised. In the midwest the rates are still around like 70-80% or something. Overall for the entire US it's between 50-60%; thus about 40-50% will be uncircumcised. Kids will be quite confused as the "odd one out" will be hard to tell now (and it shouldn't really matter anyway). In a decade, who knows, the rate of circumcision is decreasing steadily has been since the 1980s, so perhaps the cut ones will the be odd ones.

It very much depends on location state etc as much as anything else, in the US its seems that some states don't really seem to have many boys that are circumcised and other seem to be all done.

Most baby's in the US will be cut at birth, so yes depending on your state a child may feel left out in the locker room if they are not cut.

Speak to a health worker in child care or a local doctor and I'm sure they should be able to put you in the right direction for this info !!

Why don't you check with the AMA (American Medical Association) and see if they keep statistics on that subject. All of us "experts" in here are just guessing at that question.
