Has anyone worked out whether it's mathematically possible for a game of Tetris to last forever? I'd love to know!! '_'

well, you have to sleep sometime. When I was in the height of my Tetris playing, I would close my eyes at night and see little peices falling! I couldn't escape!

I think that after two hundred lines, the pieces are moving too fast to really do anything. I bet at some point, they come down so fast, that even if you just held left on the controller, the peices would not go all the way to the left side of the screen. There would be no way to complete a line, and the game would end soon.

Theoretically yes, since the game is simply repeating its speed past a certain lv (10), and only adding more rows to destroy before next lv. However, the original GameBoy tetris system is only a computer, and all systems with a "random # generator" must end. However, I have heard that in newer editions, the game simply resets after a set number of levels to level 20 or so, and this can continue ad infintium.

Yes.
When tetris first came out I played it on a computer with a 286 cpu. I think this might have been a bit slow for the game. or the game just didn't take the cpu speed into account properly when figuring out how fast the pieces move. With a bit of practice I could play fast enough to just keep playing at level 10. The game never got faster and I just kept going until I got tired of playing.

No, it cannot last forever. Eventually, if the random generator of the pieces is truly random, then the player will come across a sequence of many S- and Z- shaped pieces consecutively, and it is impossible to complete a row with only these pieces.

The odds of this happening are rather slim, but within an infinite period of time, it is bound to happen, and even a perfect player would not be able to win.

Since it gets faster, it would seem to become impossible to play above a certain speed. But if the computer which is hosting the game is a real machine, it will reach a maximum speed. If it maxes out, then the game can go indefinitely. If it continues to accelerate, or the player cannot keep up, it must end.

NO, people only live 800,000 hours

Maybe if many peolple got together for many generations and did shifts. Maybe they would get close to forever, but no

The game gets faster and faster until it's impossible to keep up, I think.
