i just spent £2500.00 on a plasma panasonic viera, its the dogs bollox.
LCD give to much colour bleed when watching fast sport or action films. Trust me i done my research before spending that kind of money.
And as for screen burn, you would have to leave a channel on for days on the same picture to get any burn effect. Check out some of the top manufacturers websites ie panasonic, pioneer.

Plasma has a much "crisper" picture than an LCD. There are more pixels per inch in a Plasma. Also, LCD has a tendency to leave "shadows" on the screen, whereas a Plasma does.

You're going to pay more for Plasma - but you get what you pay for, and you'll be getting the best!

The problem i find with LCD is that to get the best view of the picture on the screen, you have to be right in front. With a Plasma it is more like a normal TV and you have the same picture at the angles

I have been told that LCDs are better as a the image can burn through the screen (or something like that) eventually on a plasma

Depends what size screen, Above 37" get a plasma, below that size it's LCD only.
Make sure it's future proof with as many hdmi connections as poss, HD ready (it's taking a little time to come thru, only sky and cable at the moment), as high as poss on contrast, brightness and res,pc connection if you need it.
The bottom line is check it out for yourself but make sure you view it with analogue signal and hd signal.
LG and Samsung make most of the screens (LCD), even for other makes.
enjoy !!!

Plasma technology is unrefined. Stick to LCD for now - one that will be HD ready.
Plasma tv's will need replacing regularly as they "decompose".
