I'm talking about scholarships, tv channels, clubs in schools, etc. If there was a white entertainment tevelvision channel or scholarships for only white kids to go to college or even a whites against drunk driving it would be outrageous. Can you imagine if there was a 'White Club' at school? My highschool had a 'Hispanic Club' and no one said a thing. Look who is calling who racist.

I understand your concerns, and sometimes I think there is a little bit of racism that is allowed against whites.

However, whites are, overall, in better standing than other races in this country and all these programs are used to help those races become more equal with whites.

Is it racist? Yes, I think so. Is it wrong? I don't know, depends on your opinion really. But it all comes down to making the country and its colleges, tv, and schools more fair for all people.

If we do ever get on the same foot and all races are on the same level, then at that point it would not be fair to have scholarships available only to one race, unless of course a scholarship was set up for each race.

I hope this all makes sense and doesn't make me sound racist, because I am not at all; I just wanted to help give you some reasons why this does happen and why it is okay for now.

It can be argued that most network programming is White Entertainment broadcasting. BET grew out of the fact that blacks were grossly underrepresented on tv. BET started out showing black videos catering to a middle age and older black folks. They have an audience.

You can have scholarships for whites only, you just need a backer.

You can have a white club as well, you can even join the Hispanic clubs. It's just that no one feels the need to. Maybe if you were in a predominantly black school you'd feel a need to connect with the few white folks that were there?

If you really want to get an idea of what it's like to be Black in America, check out a movie called White Man's burden. It's rather enlightening and gives you a lot to ponder.

And I forgot to mention: You DO, of course, realize that up until about the 1960s or so, blacks were completely excluded from all things in white society? A lot of these organizations are here because of that fact. And no, they didn't just go away automatically. Did racism?

Even if the people of one race are more disadvantaged than another race, there are still overlaps where there are, in this instance, poor white people and rich black people. What's to prevent the rich folk from partaking in the advantages set out for the poor and what is there to aid the poor people who don't have those special programs as an option? This, in my opinion, is not equality, and things like scholarships should not be award based on race.

I think the biggest reason for these clubs that segregate themselves from the main population is so that people can associate with others because of something obvious that they don't have to ask about. It puts everyone on the same level as everyone else, gives them other people to relate to. Most white people just feel comfortable because they see other white people all the time. They don't always feel a need to associate with other white people so much that they form an organization. In places like Maine, which is a predominately white state, a black person may go days without seeing another black person and they may begin to feel lonely and distraught that no one else looks like them and that they are treated differently because of it.

The need to feel accepted is perhaps the greatest force behind these special programs. Despite the civil rights movement of the 60s and 70s, people are still racist, but it is in a different form than before. It goes mostly unnoticed because these new methods of cloaked racism are not widely recognized among the general populous.

Puleeez! I am so tired of Whites crying about blacks and other minorities getting scholarships and such. It is still hard for blacks to obtain that scholarship sometimes, and most are being placed in special education courses that they Do not need and this slows them down(I work with special ed teachers). Meanwhile a white person has money and connections beyond our wildest dreams! There are plenty of societies and clubs where blacks will definitely not be allowed. The label"Whites Only" has been taken down though.

Techically for there to be a Hispanic Club there should also be a Black Club, an Asian Club a White club

To allow a Hispanic CLUB to exist is RACIST unless there be other ethic clubs and WHITES are ethnic!

Now, to deny blacks or hispanics access to general TV is racist

But if BET is to exist, then WET must also exist!

Otherwise it is a farce!

In Romania, after the fall of communsim, they wanted to BAN communist party, but the relaized they'd be EXCACTLY like communists if they did that!

Free choice

Black TV
White TV
Asian TV
Hispanic TV

Those are FREE choices

There is a difference when you look at a TV show and EVERYONE is WHITE

That is wrong

I'll hold with BLACK or HISPANIC music awards for a while, but ONCE

Usher

And

Carlos

Get awards at the regular Grammies, this RACIST and SEGRAGATED BLACK and HISPANIC thing must stop!

It's about everyone,

Even French
Italian
German
and Swedish

have an EQUAL chance at the comptition!

So long as we EXCLUDE then BLACK and HISPANIC awards have some merits

the

MOMENT we totally INTEGRATE

Then THEY become the RACIST ones!

The White section of society are not a minority. What you are saying is just ignorant. Why do you not ask, "Why didn't the White population get oppressed by the Black population in the 1900's?" or "Why aren't White people racially harassed by others daily because of their race?" White people are never deprived of thier life, liberty, or pursuit of happiness due to their race, while people of other ethnicities and races are discriminated against, victimized, and killed on a daily basis. These programs, scholarships, and other things are there to make up for a small portion of the suffering that these minorities have and have had to go through. Why don't you think about this. If you could think, you'd realize what you are asking is just dumb.

I am sorry if I have offended you in any way, but I must state my views.

if the racial demographics of an area show whites as the minority then there should certainly be 'special programs ' in place for whites. If the programs are not in place where there is a white minority then it is unconstitutional to any democratic / developed nation concerned.
The reason as tho ' why ' those programs are ' not ' in place is because the federal government is terrified of the R word - being called racist by enough special interest groups or lobby groups - unions - and members. So the goverment shakes in the knees at requests for accomadations to whites when they are the minority.

It isn't ok if you truly are not racist. I often wonder why there is a miss Black America. I know many years ago the Miss America contest was whites. It has been mixed for quite a while now and several black Miss Americas have been chosen since it has been changed. If we had a Miss White America can you hear the screams? I believe all are equal but obviously not everyone does. I do believe the language should be English as it has been since the beginning of our country. You don't go to another country and expect them to change their language for you. All of our ancestors who came here had to learn the language to become citizens why is a special group being given special privileges? You know their country would not change their language if we moved there. I know there are Polish clubs and Italian clubs but don't know why they have to segregate themselves from the rest of us.

Get a grip - just look at American history and learn how black people were the most excluded of all from majority activities. even barred systemically without explanation. Even now we can feel the tension as late as 2006. If we didn't have our own comfort zone there would be nothing for us. So until the majority reaches out to include us it behooves us to have our own "soft spot to land" (Thank You Dr. Phil)
If we had no activities and no place to go,as long as it didn't ruffle your ego or your feelings about yourself - you wouldn't care what kind of life we were living - just as long as you can enjoy your life!
we are not living(existing) to make YOU happy - we need to make our selves happy. we weren't invited to be apart of of the things that you do - so we will make our own way until such time as you do reach out. Remember you are the majority and you have everything going for you! So what is your concern?
Even on this forum here in 2006 we are constantly told that we are hated! Quite frankly black people are confused! You dont want us with you and you dont want us to have anything of our own! This life is not a dress rehearsal .................................
