I'm not satisfied with the prospect of attending college. I've gone through the motions for a while now, and I'm not content with the thought of spending several more years learning things that are of no use to me.

I'm in a dilemma, because it appears to be exceedingly difficult to acquire a decent paying job without a college degree.

Even more unsettling to me than college is the prospect of a 9 to 5 job. I have no desire to sit in any sort of office for the majority of my life. I also don't have any spectacular skills that would enable me to employ myself.

It bores me to think of the rest of my life, really.

What are my options?

I left university half way through because for the first time I stumbled upon a job that really interested me. Because I enjoyed that job so much I was good at it, and it lead to a similar one for a bigger company, which lead to promotion.
10 years on and I'm just in the process of buying a business of my own.

If you know for sure you won't get anything useful from college, then get out into the world and gain experience - as an employer I've always valued that more than qualifications.

I've never worked nine 'til five either - often longer , but that doesn't matter if you're into what you're doing, and I've been able to just drop things if something else interesting was happening. Trust me, jobs like this do exist, but they tend to find you!

Sculptor has hit on the right answer. Find what best interests you, then the rest will be incredibly fun and exciting, even the learning part.

I had to go through two degrees before I found what really turns me on. I've been a full-time trader for more than a decade, and oh, how I wish sometimes I could only work 9 to 5. LOL.

At the very least, you should see how that once you learn something, you not only become more valuable to society, more responsible, and more able to contribute, it opens your eyes to the many possibilities that await you. If you sit on your couch, there are no open doors.

Go to your college counselor, and tell them you are either going to quit, or find the right path for you. You want to take their Aptitude and Interest tests, or whatever they're called. There should be a battery of tests for several days, not just one quick questionaire. If they don't have it, go elsewhere. It should be free if they want you to attend their college.

It sounds also, like you are having a problem with finding or recognizing truth, and understanding your purpose and meaning in life, which is another way of finding your "path."

Read the “Essay” at the following link to define truth, then read the article “Finding Truth” Both are under Articles - Contents

Just to see how far from the truth the general is, read the short article called Supreme Law found on the Home Page here:

When you find out let me know. I have looking for work and havent found anything. All people that are hiring want expierence....But if no one will hire you how do you get expirence????? I graduated High School and am married. I would suggest maybe going to college, but just doing it part time like going to a trade school so you have the rest of your day free assuming you have some sort of income. Sorry if this is no help.

Everything that pays well is going to require some training on top of high school. Think about paramedic school, though. It's only 2 years of training (approximately) and definitely not a 9 to 5 job.
