I need to know the average hourly wage for child care in California. Humboldt County to be exact. I am trying to look for work, but it is hard since I still dont have anyone to watch my one year old daughter. She is super attached to me and screams her head off if she is with someone she doesnt know, and I leave. I'd like a friend or family member to watch her, and I need to know how much they would make.

Excuse me haters! I'm on welfare because my fiance was being abusive and I wasnt going to take it. So I left him. I turned to Welfare for aid. Now, I'm looking for work. I dont intend to leach off welfare forever. I Want a job. I'm actually dying to work at the Sears Portrait Studio here, since I am an avid photographer. I'd even like to start my own photography business someday. So dont act like you know me. And dont act like you pay SO much, so others can be on welfare. Go get your facts straight. And dont ever assume anything. It only makes you look like a fool.
Also, have any of you ever tried getting an answer out of a case worker who obviously hates their job, and doesnt do it right? I've left messages with plenty of questions that go unanswered. I'm here asking for a little help with a question I have. If you dont know the answer then why dont you just move along?
Didnt your mother ever tell you....
"If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all."

Welfare in most states does not pay for childcare.
While there are programs in a few states that pay some of the child care expenses, it is usually based on your income.

Nice moral dilemma though it has a solution. Not that I speak for Republicans, but if you are on welfare, I hope that your first goal would be to become self-sufficient. I know that some people have a hard time doing that. If you just can't manage it, I would be much happier if you made voluntary arrangements for welfare. You see, the same apparatus of taxation that pays your welfare is used to gather money to fund the bailout to bank millionaires. Do you really believe that you get the better deal? I can see why you might choose to go with public assistance. It really is much easier than to provide for yourself or to find a private benefactor. And that's the real dilemma. Taxation and public welfare are difficult to get people off of, especially (meaning no offense if you really are in the position you say) considering that people on welfare tend to be less educated and so less able to understand the economic/philosophic arguments. Yet those collective programs are among the most important contributors to the ongoing crisis. Anyway back to your original question, it really is a shame that the question comes down to someone else providing for your child and killing it. I understand that unwanted pregnancies must be an ordeal. As a man, I will never know what someone in your position must feel. But we can do better than the alternatives that you suggest.

I know you aren't getting a lot of help with this question, but even though I think the person treated you rudely, she was right about one thing, only the social serviced department at Humbolt county can tell you, for sure.
If a family member takes care of the child, that person may not need to be a licensed child care provider, but, again, check with social services.
One thing I CAN tell you is that a regular day care provider will not let a screaming child disrupt their activities. If the child will not quiet down after a reasonable time, they will call the parent to pick the child up. Imagine what that will do to you in a brand new job, to have to leave in the middle of your first day.
ALL children grow attached to their mothers. Work at easing the child's anxieties. Find a trusted stranger to work with you on this. Leave the child in the room for a short period. The child cries for a few minutes, come back in to let the child know you WILL be back. Leave the room for longer periods until the child gets used to your absence.
It's going to have to happen sometime.

No but there is a welfare to work program that will help you get on ur feet and pay for schooling and work with you to get a job and have child care who you can have anyone you chose to get paid whether its a company or a friend or family member. its in 58 states... You have to ask for the program referral at the welfare office. im in this program and know some info on it like they pay for uniforms and book cost and your buss pass (added to your aid) they do not pay intuition but if you do apply and qualify for E-bog grant you can get classes started with out paying anything but the 20 or so health fee. then if you apply for the fasfa then you get money for helping pay books and other expenses needed to got to school. they can also help with housing and provide optional psychiatrist to help with being a single parent and other issues. thing is you HAVE to go to there program to do meetings etc they are connected with employers so they give them a tax brake if they hire you so you get the job like best buy etc. you pick your career and all you do is apply and go to the interview. im doing both school and work. you have to do hrs with the program so you don't get welfare cut off. (you have to do this when your child is 2 years old anyways) basically. They even help you get ur ged or high school diploma.

It's on a sliding scale based on how much you and the childs father makes.

Best to get a job that YOU can pay your family baby sitter instead of US with welfare. What about the father, what about child support from HIM? That is suppose to pay for childcare.

your friend has to be certified to watch children. at least in the state of florida they do. It depends on how much money you are making and your family size and your bills.
