I'm 18 and wanting to get on the pill. My boyfriend and I dont like condoms, nor do we trust pulling out. We know that each of us are free of STD's, so that is not an issue. My question is, how do I go about getting on it. I dont want my mom to know and I'm on a college budget. Can I simply walk into my local Women's Center or Planned Parenthood? Do I have to have an exam if I go through them? I heard that if you go through something like that the pills are really cheap, if not free. Is this true? Thanks for the help!

Yes this is true. If you dont get a exam the pills will be much higher than if you do. You can usually get them for really cheap at your college health center pharmacy. You do have to get an exam but it really isnt that bad and it saves alot of money!
good luck

My married friend still goes to planned parenthood for her pills and she has been on them for about 4 years. It costs like $15 a month and yes you have to have an exam, just once a year though thank heaven. It's not the most fun thing but it's over fast.

They will want you to have an exam, Planned Parenthood can not tell you mom or anyone that you went there. Also if you can not afford the pills Planned Parenthood may provide them for you depending on your income.

Planned parenthood has programs to sighn you up for medicaid ( a state funded program) to pay for your exam and pills if you qualify, wich you probly will if your a student, I would call and make an appointment a.s.a.p. before your dealing with your mom finding out about more than pills

You can go to planned parenthood. Also, are you covered by your college insurance? If so your mom will not know about it. Also, you could go to your college office and pay for them. They are not that expensive. Depending on the college they will have a student center for students.

if you are 18 then you are an adult and your mom don't have to find out about it unless you choose to tell her.
planned parenthood can help, you will have an exam and then they will sit down and expalin all the different options you have for birth control. they also have payment plans, and accept insurance and/or medicaid.

they will do a pap smear on you, it's good because they check for cervical cancer, but it is as easy as stopping into your local free clinic.

be careful though if you've never taken BC before then please read up on all the info before you start taking them. your body can reject it and you can get yeast infections (really gross stuff if you haven't had one)... gain weight, and have some wild mood swings.

good luck!
