Definitely, get a light-weight walking tent somewhere in the region of 2-3 kilograms. Food depends on how long you're going walking for? I've managed about five days on pasta, rice, tinned food, powdered milk, weetabix, maltloaf, and dried fruit, before returning to civilisation and a fat juicy steak! Take enough undies to last, but as for the rest, just two sets of clothes, one for walking in and another for the evenings.

was this a serious question?
of course its possible. a proper rucksack 50litres upwards and youll get your tent sleeping bag food and other things wothout any bother.
i have 4 rucksacks different sizes for different trips etc
i hav a 100 lite expedition pack which is great but be warned the bigger the sack the more likely you are to fill it.. but remember you have to be able to carry it too

Yes. Depends on how long you're going for, though, and how much initial equipment you need. You can always stock up on more food later.

Your local camping shop can advise you on lightweight things you can bring. Food must not be perishable (Wayfayrer meals and just-add-water lunches are good).

Absolutely.
I've just come back from a backpacking holiday, the key is to have lightweight equipment and only take the bare essentials. Maybe you could think about buying your food locally as you require it?

You'll need a fairly large backpack but it's totally workable.

Yup. As long as the trip isn't too long.
