I worked in the mail room of a prison several years ago (as an employee, not an inmate) and the only requirement was a background check (standard for almost all jobs) which they didn't run, and a drug test. No special clearances required.

If you are talking about a job that makes license plates or does inmate's laundry you can qualify with any new felony conviciton.
