Its a great choice. I have used both, but I like the paragard the best. I had one really heavy period after getting it, but now they are about 3-4 days and the best part...no side effects from hormones since this one is hormone free.

I had the Mirena IUD. I loved it. After the initial cramping went away it was wonderful. No Periods! Unfortunately my husband finally decided that he wants to have a baby. I didn't even have it in for a year. It was very expensive. I was so shocked when I got my bill for $1300.00. I negotiated the bill down because my insurance didn't cover any of it and the doctor didn't follow some very important procedures! Anyway, I talked the bill down to $500. Just so you know, the actual device costs around $400.

By the way, I have never had any children. The IUD was a last choice because the BCPill was giving me crazy high blood pressure. My doctor said that many women that have never had children do not tolerate the IUD well. It worked great for me. (My husband complained a little because he would hit the strings during intercourse. He said it poked him in the pee hole. hehe Poor baby) :)

I am on my second one, the first was the copper one, did nothing but cause more problems for me. I now have the Merina IUD and love it, no more periods and pain. Just as effective as having tubes tied with out the pain of surgery and is reversible.

I LOVE IT! I HAVE TRIED THE PILL THE SHOT, THE PATCH, I HAVE 3 KIDS, PREGNANT 4 TIMES, AND THOSE OTHER METHODS MADE ME SO SICK! SO OBVIOUSLY THOSE DONT WORK FOR ME, BUT THE IUD, IT IS GREAT! THE FIRS MONTH OF SO INVOLVED CRAMPING, SPOTTING, BUT NOTHING WORSE THAN A NORMAL MONTHLY YA KNOW? NOW IT HAS BEEN 6 MONTHS AND IT IS LIKE IT IS NOT EVEN THERE EXCEPT THE WHOLE NOT GETTING PREGNANT ADVANTAGE! LOL!
