The "telephone" is obsolete! It was the forerunner of 21st century communication devices which allow us almost instant transmission of voice, data, and video (ahem) throughout the solar system.

Connecting people more rapidly enables more communication which means more expression. Before it people who were far communicated by letters - a much slower and delayed process.
So more communication speeds up relationships which leads to more experiences gained in one's life.
In a more practical manner - it makes life much easier, safer.
