Hi. So you won't have to invent a new unit for each scale change.

It tells you what power of ten you are using. For example kilo- means 10^3, mili- means 10^-3, and so on. Tells you what conversion is needed to get from the base unit to the unit you want.

Example: 1kg=1000g
