Simple answer. guns don't make us safer, not when any crackpot can get their hands on one so long as they can write their name and wait three days. It's called gun control. maybe our leaders should check it out sometime, that is when their not busy using the government as a way to make sure they stay rich and comfortable after they are done "serving the people".
see: Dick Cheney, Rumsfield, Bush, and uh pretty much most of the current administration actually.

I own several guns and they haven't killed anybody, not even once!
It's a culture of violence and drugs, combined with easy access to guns, that makes for a more violent society. Now some might say "well then you just make guns illegal!" but that won't work because criminals will still have them, and also firearms are so imbedded in the American psyche and culture that it would be like WW3 if you tried to take them away.
Also consider that US gun ownership is at an all time high, and overall violent crime has been dropping for decades. This kinda shoots a whole in the "more guns = more crime" theory.

That is an outright lie propagated not by the left but by people who wish to control others. It helps when sheep do not object to being herded, not me.
Only Spain; among Western countries has a lower violent crime rate than the United States. It is an indisputable fact that the anti freedom media has hidden for years. In Australia the home invasion rate has quadrupled since guns were confiscated. Their answer was to discuss knife control. The British burglary rate, along with rape is so out of control that some politicians are now discussing "letting" the people defend themselves, with what I do not know. I have lived in London within the past ten years, you cannot walk the streets without being questioned by the Police. You can have your police state and your crime rate. This is not Winston Churchills England.
The lies do not end at the border, you are in a much safer place when you are in a gun toting hick state. The only defense from the sophisticated places where crime is rampant, is that people come from gun states to commit crime. That is probably true; a guy could get his butt shot off trying to rape someone in Texas or Oklahoma, best to take your business up north where they are more understandng.
It slays me that so many liberals are taken in; many groups associated with the left are the biggest gun control supporters and those who should oppose it the most. Blacks, I am sure that you know that gun control laws in the US began as Jim Crow laws designed to take guns out of the hands of Black men. Today a Black man is 7X more likely to meet a violent end then a white guy, you might want to be able to defend yourself. Gays, I do not need to tell you that you are often targeted for violence due to your sexual orientation, you may want to be able to save yourself. Jews, remember that little party called the Holocaust where at least six million of your brothers were slaughtered, Hitler made sure he confiscated guns long before he made that move. Think that is irrelevant today, most Middle Eastern countries call for the destruction of Israel and your death.
I am picking on these groups but in truth they have been fed such a steady diet of lies such as the US crime rate that they do not recognize the truth. There is hope, more of these groups are becoming aware of what their gun rights mean to them. Roy Innis is the head of Black Gun Owners. There is an organization called Pink Guns, which is a group that spell out the advantages of gun rights for gay people, More and more people of the Jewish faith are becoming evil NEOCONS and discoving their natural rights.
This is not an issue of left or right, gun rights are given to every person as a natural right and are not subject to the whims of individuals.
The only good thing gun control ever did was banish the Democrats to status as the minority party

Americans are more violent. We are constantly pumped by the media with the righteousness of doing harm to another for a wide variety of reasons.
Even if Americans had no guns we'd kill each other by other means. Household stuff like knives, hammers and my personal favorite the automobile.
I can only say that when guns are taken away from the people only the government will have them. That is damn scary and was to our fore fathers.
Educating gun owners on the proper use of deadly force will even make a drunken split decision more informed.

It is not the guns, it is the people that own them, I have owned guns and have had several of them since I was 10 years old and I have never shot anybody, The need is to take the guns away from the outlaws and leave law abiding citizens alone.
Edit, Canada has gun laws and guess where the last school shooting was. As has been said when guns are outlawed only outlaws have guns.

All this may be true, but it does not necessarily follow that gun control or gun bans will cause a drop in crime. You can't infer one from the other. In states where concealed carry laws have been passed, the effect on crime has been negligible. When the assault weapons ban expired just a while back, no huge crime increases or spikes occurred. All it did was allow me to buy a 30 round clip for my rifle. And when gun control measures are in place, there is no noticable change in crime rate.
Maybe we're all crazy *&%#&.

I hate to quote the "gun nuts" but, they are right when they say that if guns are outlawed, only the outlaws will have guns. The gun-related crimes are not perpetrated by the legal gun owners. Someone tried to break into my house yesterday morning. He probably saw my mate leave & then tried to jimmie the door. My dogs scared him off, but if he had gotten in, I had back-up. Footnote: people were killing each other long before guns were in existence. There are knives, crowbars, fists, etc.

Actually statistics are showing our violent crime is coming down while some countries in Europe are enjoying an increase. The city of Kennesaw GA enacted a city ordinance that you had to own a gun. (expect for conscientious observers) and crime actually reduced in that down. Look it up its on the web.

Liberal bigot!! Don't go around stating that my data is false when you clearly don't have any support for your own! Brazil and Mexico have less guns than the United States(most illegally) and they have the highest mug and crime rates in history! You can even learn that from COPS!!! But let me ask you this...if someone broke into your home with knife to your head....would you just stand there and allow him to stab you?? Unless you're as stupid as you question, you wouldn't!!!

Because of the other idiots out there with guns...I'm talking about the people who use guns for crimes and who don't know how to properly handle a gun.
