This depends on alot of factors. Is he active? How loud is the noise? What does it look like? Does he have full mobility?

I ask if he is active is because if he is a regular athlete he might have cartilage build up on the back of his knee or the knee cap might be out of place. If it is a little swollen you might have ligament damage. The main idea I'm trying to put across is that you will not know unless you go see a doctor. From there the doctor if still confused might give him an MRI. Just CHECK it out!!!

I had a similar sort of thing for about 10 years now, I think anyway. I can hear it cracking in my head, echoing directly up my bone structure. It was apparently caused when I chipped a bone in my knee, and because weak spots get healed with incredible strength, and take a long time to return to normal, what your probably hearing is that lump from the repair catching another bone in the knee. At least thats what mine is, and I never knew anything about breaking it. If he's in pain however this will be useless.

My brother does this too - it usually comes from the leg of his trousers and after having a curry with beer.

Quite often the loud cracking sound is accompanied by a disgusting smell.

He really doesn't take it too seriously and usually rolls around laughing afterwards so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Hi

Is your son in pain? If so, then it could possible be shin splints or cartilage problems. If not, then it may just be the joint.

In any case, you should get this checked out with a doctor or a physio.

All the best

Maybe. If he is injured, better to bring him to a doctor.

Here in philippines, we usually do is "hilot/massage" the usually caused is "lamig/cold".

Try to do some streching. And a hot compress will do to relax the muscle in his lower leg to.
