If we're all following, who do we follow?.. If not one person is thinking for themselves, who are we following?.. Why can't people just live for themselves, understand that others are living for themselves, and just accept the fact that we are all different?;D

Only the truly stupid do not seek others' opinions; only the really weak give in to others' opinions; only the wise seek others' opinions and then make decisions of their own.

I think it depends on the persons personality .How they were raised. If they were hurt they might be a follower not wanting to make anyone mad. Or if they grew up in a strong family where they were allowed to speak there mind and have a opinion then they will probably be the leaders. You ever read the poem "Children Learn What They Live" . I think it is true.

I a country where Christianity is the dominating religion it is easy to understand why people don't think for themselves. The Bible teaches people not to rely on their understanding but to have faith in god. This docrine along with the idea that we all need a master is taught in every church no matter the denomination. Teachings like this lead to people being submissive little sheep basically volunteering to be led to their own slaughter.

Another reason people do not think for themselves is modern media. How many people do you know that watch television everyday? How many televisions do you have in your house? You can try to defend your consumption of the media by saying you only watch educational shows, but this does not matter. No matter what show you watch on television you are opening yourself of to those who control the media. There is propaganda in everything that you watch. You can say that the propaganda doesn't effect you, but that is a sure sign that it is effecting you.

Advitisers, sitcom writers, and directors do the subtlest things to teach what to or not to accept in society. When the majority of people in the country consume media hours as most of their "relaxationation" time it is easy to see why most people think the same way on most topics.

Example: An older man is dating a considerably young female. This is not accepted by most people though these people don't know exactly why they don't like it. Then you find out that these people watch shows like "Friends" that makes the man in such a relationship look like a moron. This is obviously not the main point in the show, but it is snuck in there so stratigically that it goes unnoticed in order to seep into the sub-consciencous.

There are more things that effect the thinking patterns of people, such as, "equality", "diversity", and their peers, but to get into each of these would take to much time for an area such as this that moves to fast for long ideas to be discussed. However, a good start to figuring out whether or not you are just a sheep in the herd is to turn off your television for a week and see whay happens in your social life. (The idea of this is to see that you don't need the television dictating to you and that you can live without it, believe it or not.)

It's easier to be a follower than a leader. Safety in numbers. If you blaze a trail you may upset, scare or threaten people. If you just go with the flow, you fit in.

It takes guts to STAND OUT rather than fit in. The majority of people will always choose to blend into the background.

But once in a while an individual will DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, risking ridicule and rejection. Those are the ones who achieve greatness!

Every individual capable of conscious thought does indeed think for themselves. How they apply that thought is where the difference lies. Some are single minded and strong enough willed to have the confidence of their own conviction, others lack self esteem and thus choose to absorb the thoughts of others into their own thought patterns and behaviors. Those who choose a life of thought and question are the individuals we recognize as free thinkers possessing open minds. The others tend to turn to religion in order to fill their minds with cotton wool for comfort and security...

many people are concerned with what other people think, so they conform to others opinions, to fit in instead of taking a chance and making a decision for themselves for the fear of being looked down upon. Most people get their ideas of whats right in life from the t.v. thinking that that must be what the majority of people think, so they go along with it.

well ... we may be different in some tiny details but in general we have many things in common .... we have the same feelings & fears , we breathe the same air , we live on the same earth , we suffer from the same diseases & we are all humans having the same nature ..... that is why we can't live alone & we need to think with others

what i think is we think for ourselves already, but you know? people have to learn each other some how. when you want to do something you don't know you will learn by seeing others how they do what and how do they did... and that you will have to decide after you'll follow or not... if is good for you then follow... but if not then you don't... and this is what i'm thinking about this topic... :)

Because we have become a nation of sheep. It is easier to ask someone to do something then to do it yourself. Case-in-point, this very website. Many could look things up, but it is easier to ask someone else.

Bahhh.
