I don't know i was raised with brothers and learned early if you don't check before you sit down you deseve what you get.

I grew up with 4 brothers who NEVER put the seat down. Solution: learn to pee standing up. It worked great especially since we did lots of camping :)
I never made them put the seat down because there were more of them than me so I had to learn how to deal with it.

Because woman always sit down and sometimes men do to. Plus it looks better. I know some people that have to have both seat and cover down.
