1950s teen icon Sandra Dee played the role of Gidget in an American film with the same title released in 1959. The story was adapted from the novel by Frederick Kohner, and with a screenplay by Gabrielle Upton, and directed by Paul Wendkos. It follows the life of teenager Gidget and friends, in a predictably sweet love story.

Sandra Dee was indeed Gidget in the Gidget movie. But there was also a TV show as well as several other Gidget sequels (in true Hollywood fashion. Sally Field was TV Gidget. Other Gidgets:

The first one done in the late fifties was Sandra Dee. Sally Field did the one in the sixties.
