I asked my brother the same question about a month ago and his answer was basically....there is no different.
Hip - Hop is becoming a joke...
what you need to become a famous hip-hop star:
1. You have to be ugly
2. Preferably from down south
3. From the ghetto or da hood
4. Have bad credit
5. Don't wear you size
6. You must have a hoe fetish
Theres a few more but those are the top 6.

rap is kind of faster than hip hop and you probably have more street cred and a reputation when you're a rap star, like 50 Cent or someone like that, hip hop is like Pharell or somebody like that I guess
