I realize it is a matter of etiquette but i do not undestand why some people have a big problem with sitting on other types of furniture that is not a chair. Is the thought a matter of function over design because my rear is touching where the original plan did not conceive for it to go? I think I'm old enough now not to have people say things to try and correct me.

For example i like to work above my work space. At work I sit on the arm of my chair. I weigh very little and it clearly supports my body without causing damage. I also like to sit on my desk. I like to sit on tables or maybe turn a chair around. What's the crime?

I'm with you!

sit wherever your asss is comfortable, I say.

I like to sit on the floor, on the coffee table, my desk, and window sills / ledges.

When I HAVE to sit in an actual chair, I usually sit in unconventional ways like sitting on one or more feet, or putting my feet up on the chair and hugging my knees.

I have trouble conforming to conventional furniture and its traditional uses as well.

you are not alone.

well.. it depends.. i dont like sitting on a couch with people i dont know, so maybe it depends on the company. and i dont like sitting on antique furniature, because i am afraid that it might break or something being too old. function should be a big part in the decision in buying of furniature, but design as well. i would never buy something old and beautiful looking that nobody would sit in it. what is the point in that? ;)
