I need to know why New Hampshire is known for the primaries, and then what their political significance in America is. Thanks!

The NH primaries are first in the Nation. Candidates campaign here, and for the caucuses in Iowa, before going anywhere else in the country. We are supposedly the "barometer" that will tell you who the entire country will vote for as well.

Also, Dixville Notch, NH (where I work) is the first town in the entire country to vote, every four years.

New Hampshire for years has always been the state to cast the first votes in this country. They claim this has bearing as to how much of the rest of the country will vote as well. A good number of residents in N.H. are registered as independant voters. Meaning they could vote for either party. Though lots of voters vote for the republican party. But, as usual, the yuppies are moving in and changing that all around as well. Hope this helps somewhat.
