Happyjumpyfrog is correct. Mugabe would be out of power (in more ways than one) if South Africa pulled the plug on its supply of electricity. However Mbeki won't do that for two reasons. (1) He's a friend of Mugabe's. (2) He doesn't even sort his own country's problems out - the most serious problem for RSA is HIV/AIDS, but Mbeki refutes medical science because he denies that AIDS comes from HIV. Poor southern Africa - even world hero Mandela was a disaster as president, he also ignored the AIDS pandemic and Mugabe's excesses.

The African Union should close the borders of all countries around Zimbabwe and erect refugee camps for the people to come to short term. Then South Africa should shut down the power. What economy is left would collapse in days and Mugabe supporters would quickly realise that the days of ruling by thuggery were over. With a democratic government installed and with international help Zimbabwe could become the bread basket of Africa again.

Tony Blair runs around all over the world trying to sort things out, with little or no success, why has he ignored Zimbabwe. If ever there was a cause we should have been helping this is it. The whites and blacks need our help, but I don`t think our PM would get any praise for helping, so he ignores it. It is a case. for the UN but we have seen how hopeless they are in sending troops to Afganistan, Just a few countries bearing the load.

The only thing that can be done is for South Africa to face up to its responsibilities and bring Mugabe's govt down. They can do this because all of Zim's power comes from SA and they can't afford to pay for it any more. Africa has to sort out its own problems, with out the West , to show it is now responsible for itself.

It is like Darfur we have nothing to gain from helping. Blair and Bush would not want to be seen doing anything humanitarian it might spoil their image. Mugabe should have been thrown out by other African states. The rest of the world looks on as it destroys itself from within.

Chelsea Babe is right about keeping our noses out. Unfortunately Britain and USA should have kept their noses out of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and South Africa, from right back in the 1960's

Maybe we should keep our noses out, that way we'd have more time for the problems that are actually happen in our countries. Sure, it's not poverty, but somethings need to done, like immigration, and crime laws. We need to solve our own problems, before we even think about solving other peoples.

We can ignore them (much like the U.N.).
Self determination is a great thing. It is about time that Africa united to fight the very problems that consistently plague the continent. It is about time that they cleaned house.
